Steve Killelea founded the Institute for Economics and Peace

In 2007, Steve Killelea founded the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), a non-profit research institute based in Sydney.  IEP is the first of its kind. Whilst most peace institutes traditionally focus on studying conflict, IEP is focused on studying the factors that lead to and sustain lasting peace as well as on understanding the economic benefits that flow from reductions of violence. IEP is dedicated to shifting the world’s focus to peace as a positive, achievable and tangible measure of human wellbeing and progress. It produces the Global Peace Index, recognised around the world as the first and only measure on nations’ peacefulness.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA)  gave its approval for stepping up of India’s solar power capacity target under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission by five times to reach a target of 1,00,000 megawatt by 2022.

The target will principally comprise 40,000 megawatt rooftop and 60,000 megawatt through large and medium scale grid-connected solar power projects.

With this ambitious target, India will become one of the largest green energy producers in the world, surpassing several developed countries.

CCEA approved setting up of over 2,000 megawatt of grid-connected solar power projects on ‘Build, Own and Operate’ basis by solar power developers with Viability GapFUNDING  under Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission.

It is expected to generate an additional 2000 megawatt capacity of grid-connected solar power projects and create employment for about 12,000 people in rural and urban areas.

It will also reduce about 3.41 million tonnes of carbon emissions into the environment every year.

The totalINVESTMENT  expected under this scheme is about 12,000 crore rupees
