India Ranks…….In Environmental Democracy Index?

India has ranked 24th out of 70 countries in the first Environmental Democracy Index (EDI).The list launched by Washington-based World Resources Institute (WRI) and Access Initiative. In the first edition of this index, Lithuania has topped among the 70 countries. The index evaluates countries based on recognised international standards including 75 legal and 24 practice indicators.

In a report based on employment and unemployment survey conducted in the 68th round of National Sample Survey during July 2011 to June 2012, among class 1 cities, for males, unemployment rate in usual status (adjusted) was the highest for Lucknow (8.5 percent) and for females it was the highest in Patna (34.6 percent). However, the unemployment rate for men was 2.9 percent for class 1 cities, 3.3 percent for class 2 towns and 2.6 percent fore class 3 towns. Among class 1 cities, after Patna, Kanpur has the highest unemployment rate for women at 22.7 percent followed by Kalyan-Dombivili at 11 percent. For men, Patna followed Lucknow with unemployment rate at 8 per cent. Hyderabad was at third place with a rate of 5.9 percent. –

 Eminent economist, policy advisor and noted academic Mrinal Datta Chaudhuri passed away in Pune, Maharashtra. He was 81. He had served as Director of Delhi School of Economics (DSE) and was a visiting professor of economics at the Universities of Harvard and Minnesota. He was popularly and affectionately called as ‘MDC’ among his circles. His numerous prescient papers on Indian planning had an enormous impact on former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Dr. Chaudhuri was a policy advisor in the former Congress-led UPA governments and had served on many committees and advisory bodies of Union Government. ISRO announced To Launch ASTROSAT In October 2015

 

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced that it will be launching ASTROSAT in October 2015. It will be launched by the PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) C-34 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh).ASTROSAT is the first dedicated Indian space observatory mission aimed at studying distant celestial objects. ASTROSAT carries four X-ray payloads, one UV telescope and a charge particle monitor.
